Cold Angel
England. The winter of 1944. And as the last grim months
of the Second World War grind to a close, three members of an Irish Republican unit who have been passing information onto the Germans are on the run, pursued for their crimes by the “rat-catcher”, a British Army officer with good reason to see them hang.
But ahead of the game, the three of them - two brothers
and their downtrodden sister, Kathleen go to ground at a seedy boarding house where they plan their next move, though becoming desperately short of funds, the two wanted men devise another - they put their sister to work. For nearby lies a British Military Hospital recruiting young women to train for the nursing reserve, and who would suspect one of the white robed angels?
No one it seems. And certainly not the badly injured
patient to whom Kathleen is assigned - Flight Lieutenant David Asher, a British pilot she nurses back from the
brink, and in doing so becomes deeply attached. But how long before he finds out the truth about his “angel”, the secret which would mean Kathleen losing the brand new life which has opened up for her? And yet, with the “rat-catcher” moving in ever closer, she knows she stands to lose a whole lot more.
A tense and gritty thriller of deceit and lies, of bitterness and revenge when colliding loyalties plunge all concerned into a dark and destructive journey through the bleak and lonely landscape of post war Britain and beyond.
